About The Author: Doak Mansfield

Born in Fayetteville, TN, Mansfield embarked on a journey in ministry with his ordination in 1973, beginning as a student minister in both the United Methodist and Unitarian Universalist traditions. He earned ordination as a UU Minister on Nov. 28, 1976, and achieved a Full Ministerial Fellowship with the Unitarian Universalist Association in 1980. Mansfield’s educational journey led him through Martin College, Pulaski, TN, and Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, TN, with additional ministerial training at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, and a Masters of Divinity (M.Div) from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH. Later, Doak Mansfield earned a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min) from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Donaldson, IN.

Achievements

Doak Mansfield’s journey has been marked by continuous learning and growth. He pursued post-graduate training in Military Chaplaincy, Advance Clinical Pastoral Education, and Extension Ministry Training. As a staff chaplain in hospices and hospitals, he had the honor of serving as a US Army Reserve chaplain for eight years, attaining the rank of Captain (CPT).

Experience

Mansfield’s writing journey has taken various forms, from numerous essays in magazines and newspapers to the creation of three distinct books. Among them, two delve into the domain of historical fiction, capturing the essence of bygone eras, while one explores the nuanced world of nonfiction.

Authors Background

Art has been an integral part of Manfield’s life from an early age, with a particular fondness for developing caricature portraits. Following attempts at teaching and college administration, he found his true calling in ministry. Over the years, Doak Mansfield has served eight congregations across seven states, each experience enriching his understanding of the human spirit. Mansfield’s heart transplant on June 21, 2010, marked a profound turning point, providing invaluable lessons that continue to shape my perspective.
